Junior shot putter Janus Robberts was named the outstanding male performer, earning the Maury White Award, of the 2001 Drake Relays today. The award is named after the long-time decorated sportswriter for Des Moines Register who passed away in 1999.
Robberts broke the oldest Drake Relays men's record in the shot put with a winning toss of 69-7.5 that is the second best mark in the world this spring. Robberts, who finished seventh in the shot put at the 2000 Syndey Olympics this summer, also set a South African national record with his effort at the Drake Relays.
Next weekend, SMU will compete in the Run Tex Invitational in Austin and the UTA Open in Arlington.
