Walker Named to Two College Football's All-Century
Dec 30 | Football
SMU's legendary Doak Walker, a three-time All-American and winner of the 1948 Heisman Trophy, was recently named to two college football All-Century Teams. Both the Walter Camp Foundation and the Dick Butkus Football Network selected Walker as an all-century player.
The Camp Foundation made Walker one of its 12 All-Century running back selections. First teamers Red Grange (Illinois), O.J. Simpson (USC) and Herschel Walker (Georgia) were joined by SMU's Walker, Jim Brown (Syracuse), Tony Dorsett (Pittsburgh), Bo Jackson (Auburn), Doc Blanchard (Army), Glenn Davis (Army), Archie Griffin (Ohio State), Barry Sanders (Oklahoma State) and Ricky Williams (Texas).
The Butkus Network named Walker to its second team All-Century offense and put him in the backfield with QB Doug Flutie (Boston College) and RB Ricky Williams (Texas). Forrest Gregg, a former SMU player, head coach and athletic director, was named to the Butkus Network's All-Century NFL first team.
