Dallas, Texas -- Southern Methodist University true freshman cornerback Ruben Moodley was honored by the Western Athletic Conference today as its defensive player of the week for his performance in the Mustangs' 21-7 win over Nevada last Saturday.
"The most important thing that happened Saturday was that we won," said Moodley. "I am glad I was able to contribute. This is a great honor for me.""
Moodley recorded eight tackles, including four solo, picked off two passes and broke up two more. His first interception of the game, also the first of his career, stopped a Wolf Pack drive inside the SMU 30-yard line and he returned it 24 yards. He halted Nevada's next drive with his second interception and returned it 20 yards.
The Mustangs go for their second straight win this Saturday at Rice. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast back to the Dallas-Fort Worth market on KSTR-49.
