SMU Continues Preparation for Saturday's Game at Rice

Dallas, Texas -- The SMU football team went through a 90-minute workout in full pads today in a light rain at the Mustang practice fields in preparation for Saturday's Western Athletic Conference game at Rice (2-6, 1-4).
"Rice presents some different challenges for us this week," said coach Mike Cavan. "We have seen teams that throw the ball 30 to 40 times a game up to this point this season and now they will come at us with the wishbone and triple option."
The Mustang defense worked on its option schemes against the scout team offense for most of the afternoon. SMU's offense went through drills against a simulated Rice defense.
"The scout squads are always important and especially so this week," said Cavan. "They (the scout offense) need to give us good looks in preparation for Saturday."
Right guard Thornton Chandler did not practice again today and will not be available on Saturday. Kevin Gober will start in his place.
Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 2:00 p.m. The game will be televised back to the Dallas-Fort Worth market on KSTR-49 with Allen Stone and Rick Cowart calling the action. The Mustang Radio Network broadcast beings at 1:30 on Saturday with Mark Followill on play-by-play, Craig Swann providing color commentary and Jimmy Christopher with sideline updates.
