Cavan Holds Media Luncheon

Dallas, Texas -- SMU football head coach Mike Cavan held his media luncheon Monday as the Mustangs prepare for Saturday's matchup with Tulsa at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
The following are quotes from the media luncheon.
Head Coach Mike Cavan on last week's game against Rice:
"We have to put ourselves in a position to win ballgames. We beat ourselves again this week- we had too many turnovers and dropped passes to have a shot at winning. There is not a team in the country that can overcome that many turnovers and still come out with a victory."
"It was difficult to critique the defense because Rice's field position for the game was about the 50 yard line."
"Jarrian James and Ruben Moodley again were active for our defense and continued to make plays. Billy Jack Williams played for the first time this year after the broken leg in summer workouts and he was very active as well."
On the Tulsa game:
"Tulsa is in the same position as we are. They are a very young team and are fighting each week for a win. They have had two weeks to prepare for us, and they will come out ready to play on Saturday."
"They have a young quarterback who has a lot of potential. They also have an excellent wide receiver. Offensively, they keep it simple-not a lot of motion or different sets. Defensively, they give a lot of looks and are very active."
"Offensively, we have to give ourselves the opportunity to win ballgames by not turning the ball over."
On the quarterback situation:
"We are going to have to wait and see who will take the position this week. Both players (Josh McCown and David Page) have been given the opportunity and neither has separated themselves from the other. Whomever protects the ball and makes the best reads this week in practice will get the start."
