DALLAS (SMU) - SMU kicker Chris McMurtray has been named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
McMurtray drilled a career-long 49-yard field goal with three ticks remaining to lead SMU to a 29-24 victory over Houston. He also added a 36-yarder in the second quarter and has extended his own school record to 13 consecutive kicks made. The Mustangs recorded a safety on the game's final play to win by five.
This is the second time McMurtray has won the award this season. He also won following SMU's win at UAB.
McMurtray and his fellow seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday, when the Mustangs battle UTEP at 2 p.m. in Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
