SKOKIE, Ill. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team claimed its first win of the year on Wednesday, winning the challenging Windon Memorial Classic at the par-71 Skokie Country Club. SMU carded a three-round total of 881, bettering second-place and 28th-ranked Kansas by 14 strokes.

SMU's Colt Knost also won the event as an individual, posting a 2-under 211 to win by five shots. Knost, ranked 18th nationally by GolfWeek, bettered a field that included fifth-ranked Patrick Nagle. Knost has claimed medalist honors at three of the four tournaments he has entered in 2006 and has not placed outside the top 10 in any tournament.

Scott Sikes (73-77-73) and Brandon DeStefano (77-73-73) played well, tying for 12th at 10-over 223. After starting the final round tied for 14th, Dan Kleckner posted a final-round 81 to finish tied for 33rd at 18-over 231. James Minahan struggled for the opening two rounds, but rebounded for a final-round 74 to tie for 46th at 23-over 236.
