COLUMBUS, Ohio (SMU) - Alex Skrypko began play today at the ITA National Indoor Championship with a tough opponent in the first-round as second-seeded John Isner of Georgia squeaked out a, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5), win over Skrypko tonight. Skrypko came within two points of an upset over Isner, who was a semifinalist last year in Columbus.

Skrypko is now slated for play in the consolation bracket where he will face Henrique Cancado of Old Dominion. Their match is slated for a start after 3:30 p.m. on Friday. A win against Cancado would match Skrypko against Conference USA foe, Arnau Brugues of Tulsa who received a bye in the consolation first round.
