DALLAS (SMU) - On Friday, Nov. 24, CBS Sports will broadcast "Geico Presents College Football's Ten Greatest Running Backs" at 12:30 p.m. CST. Featured among the top ten will be SMU's 1948 Heisman Trophy Winner, Doak Walker.
CBS visited the SMU campus earlier this fall for filming and did interviews with some of Doak's teammates as well as his grandson and current Mustang, Ryan Wolcott, and Heritage Hall curator Gerry York.
Walker was a three-time All-America selection from 1947-49 and is SMU's only four-time All-SWC performer. He is the Mustangs' career leader in points (288) and punt return yards (750). After leaving the Hilltop, Walker spent six seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986. In his honor, the Doak Walker National Running Back Award, recognizing the nation's outstanding college running back, was established in 1990.
The program will air locally on KTVT CBS 11.
