BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team sits in 10th place at 21-over 597 following two rounds of play at the 2006 Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Country Club. Senior Colt Knost again leads the Mustangs and is tied for fourth at 1-under 143.
Alabama leads the team event at even par and Gator Todd of Alabama and Matt Savage of Florida State top the individual leaderboard at 3-under 141.
After opening with a strong 294 on the first 18, SMU was in fourth place, but a 303 over the second round saw the 'Stangs slip to 10th. Knost (70-73) and Brandon DeStefano (76-74) were solid over the 36 holes and James Minahan (72-79) had a great opening 18, shooting even par. Other SMU scorers included Dan Kleckner (77-77) and Scott Sikes (76-80).
Tuesday's third and final round will begin with staggered tee times, with the first group teeing off at 8:15 a.m.
