BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team carded a final-round 304 to finish in ninth place at the 2006 Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Country Club. SMU finished the three rounds at 35-over 899 as a team, one shot ahead of host UAB and just six shots out of sixth place.

Senior Colt Knost again led the Mustangs, tying for 10th at 3-over 219 (70-73-76). Brandon DeStefano (76-74-74) played a consistent tournament and tied for 23rd at 8-over 224. James Minahan (72-79-78-229), Dan Kleckner (77-77-76-230) and Scott Sikes (76-77-78-231) all finished in a pack, tying for 49th, 52nd and 55th, respectively.

Alabama won team event at 5-over 869 and Jonas Blixt of Florida State topped the individual leaderboard at 5-under 211.
