DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team fell this afternoon to No. 23 Clemson, 6-1. The Mustangs are 1-2 on the season as Clemson remains undefeated at 3-0. SMU's Alex Skrypko topped No. 46 and NCAA quarter-finalist Clement Reix of Clemson at the No. 1 singles spot.

In doubles action the Mustangs were not able to take the doubles point as the only win came at No. 3 where Oivind Alver and Robin Fahgen combined for a 8-3 win over Carlos Alvarez and Kevin Fleck of Clemson, 8-3. Skrypko and Federico Murgier were not able to over turn Reix and Ryan Young at the No. 1 doubles spot at they fell, 8-5. David Kuczer and Chris Hooshyar were not able to top Jarmaine Jenkins and Paul Koenke at No. 2 as they fell, 8-5.

At the No. 1 singles position, Skrypko overturned No. 46 Reix. After falling in the first set, Skrypko battled back to take the final two sets, winning in a tie-breaker, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (10-6). Reix earned All-American quater-finalist status last season. Murgier fell to Jenkins at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3 while Kuczer was not able to over turn Young at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0. At the No. 4 spot, Alver battled with Koenke but was not able to come out on top as he fell, 6-4, 7-5. Hooshyar narrowly fell to Bizjak at No. 5, 7-6, 6-3 and Fahgen competed with Alvarez at No. 6 but was not able to shake him as Fahgen fell, 6-3, 7-5.

The Mustangs continue their home-stand as they will take on Illinois St., Sat., Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m. The match will be held at the Bent Tree Country Club.
