HONOLULU (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team stands tied for 11th following one round of play at the John Burns Intercollegiate at the 6,916-yard Leilehua Golf Course. SMU opened with a team 289 and is 12 strokes back of leader UNLV.
Individually, Brandon DeStefano is tied for 22nd at 1-under 71. Colt Knost is one shot back of DeStefano at even-par 72. Scott Sikes and Scott Barton are at 73 and Draegen Majors shot 75. Michael Drake of Long Beach leads at 7-under 65.
DeStefano won last year's event on the second hole of a playoff and the SMU team bettered BYU by one stroke to claim the team title.
There are 22 teams in this year's field - Arizona, Auburn, Denver, UC-Santa Barbara, UNLV, New Mexico, UTEP, SMU, San Diego State, San Diego, Colorado State, California, San Jose State, Utah, UH-Hilo, Long Beach State, Brigham Young, Texas A&M, Nevada, Arkansas, Fresno State and Hawaii.
