DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team toppled No. 41 Wisconsin this afternoon, 5-2. The Mustangs won the doubles point and then took the first three completed singles matches to take the win. With this win the Mustangs advance to a five-match win streak and improve their record to 12-8 on the season.
In doubles, Oivind Alver and Robin Fahgen paired for a, 8-4, win over Jeremy Sonkin and Michael Muskievicz at No. 2 doubles. The Badgers evened the score as Federico Murgier and Alex Skrypko were unable to overturn Moritz Baumann and Lachezar Kasarov at No. 1 as they fell, 8-6. David Kuczer and Adolfo Solares sealed the doubles point for the Mustangs when they outlasted Michael Dierberger and Nolan Polley at No. 3 for a, 9-7, win.
The Mustangs battled through the singles competition winning four of the matches. Murgier notched the first win as he defeated Kasarov at the No. 4 spot in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Solares put the Mustangs up by one more point when he defeated Dierberger at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4, and Skrypko clinched the match when he posted a win over No. 98 Sonkin at No. 1, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. Fahgen was unable to top Bellido at No. 5 as he was edged, 7-6, 7-6, and Alver was unable to take Baumann at No. 3 as he fell, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Kuczer outlasted Polley at No. 2 as he took the, 6-4, 6-7, 10-8, win.
The Mustangs face UT-Pan Am this Wed., April 4 at 2:00 p.m. a Bent Tree Country Club and then will complete their home-stand with a match against Notre Dame, Sat., April 7 and UTA on Wed., April 11.
