O`ahu (SMU)- The SMU men's golf team is one shot out of the lead after round one at the John Burns Intercollegiate at the 6,917-yard, par 72 Leilehua Golf Course. SMU carded a 9-under 279 over the first 18 holes and is one shot back of three-way leaders Auburn, Arizona and San Diego State in the 21-team event.

Individually, James Minahan is tied for fourth after shooting a blistering 5-under 67. Kelly Kraft is also in the top 10, sitting tied for ninth at 3-under 69. Ben Tewes (71) and Scott Barton (72) are tied for 30th and 47th, respectively, and Draegen Majors is 96th at 77.

An SMU golfer has won this event in each of the last two seasons, as Brandon DeStefano won in 2006 and Frank Wrenn emerged victorious in 2007.
