IRVING (C-USA/SMU) -SMU junior defensive back Richard Crawford has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after recording two interceptions in the Mustangs' 31-17 win over Marshall.
Crawford had two interceptions and six tackles (one for-loss) as SMU defeated Marshall to earn its sixth win and become bowl-eligible for the second straight season. The two picks were the most for any SMU player in 23 games. Crawford added a pass break-up and a 35-yard punt return, the longest of the season for SMU.
Crawford and his teammates travel to Greenville, N.C., this Friday as the first-place SMU Mustangs take on the East Carolina Pirates on Nov. 26. SMU enters the game controlling its own destiny in Conference USA's West Division. If the Mustangs win, they will win their division and will represent the West in the C-USA Championship game.
