DALLAS (SMU) – Prep standout Aphonso Thomas has signed with SMU and will enroll on the Hilltop in January, Head Coach Chad Morris announced today. Thomas, a 5-10, three-star running back from Van High School in Van, Texas, was rated as the No. 20 running back in the Lone Star State this season by Scout.com.
"We are very excited about Aphonso and his skill set," said Morris. "He is a very explosive running back. His size and speed will be a valuable addition, and he will be a great complement to the backs we have on the roster. While he is a tremendous football player, he is an even better person, and we're happy to have him on the Hilltop."
Thomas ran for 1,568 yards and 21 touchdowns in 11 games in 2015 after tallying 934 yards and 12 scores as a junior. He chose SMU over offers from Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado State, Nevada and others.
