PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) - SMU's Hunter Johnson was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday, after recording a perfect 2-0 combined record to help the Mustangs sweep No. 5 Oklahoma State on Saturday.
The No. 25 doubles pair of Hunter and Yates Johnson gave the Mustangs their first doubles win of the day after defeating the No. 9 doubles duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe, 6-1. Hunter continued his momentum into singles play, as the No. 73 singles player taking down the No. 121 singles player in Kadhe, 6-4, 6-3, to claim his 20th singles win of the year.
Hunter has a combined record of 7-2 against ranked opponents in both singles and doubles play this year. The New Braunfels, Texas, native has a team-best 24 doubles win, which 23 have come with twin-brother Yates.
SMU is back in action tomorrow for its final home match of the season, hosting UT Arlington at 6 p.m. CT. Senior Nate Lammons will be honored after the match.
