DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match, sweeping No. 20 Tulsa 4-0 inside Turpin Stadium on Sunday night. SMU is now 10-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play, with five shutout victories.

The Mustangs opened up doubles play with the first victory on court two by the No. 18 doubles pair senior Nate Lammons and junior Arkadijs Slobodkins over Carlos Bautista and Juan Matias Gonzalez 6-4. Tulsa claimed the second doubles match on court three 7-5. With the decisive third doubles match on the line to take a 1-0 lead, the No. 53 doubles duo Hunter and Yates Johnson went to a tiebreaker with Okkie Kellerman and Matthew Kirby. The match needed an additional 16 games before the Johnson twins came up victorious 7-6 (9-7).

"Real fantastic team win, from top to bottom, singles and doubles," said Head Coach Carl Neufeld. We're improving and I'm really proud of that, but we still have a long way to go but that's good news because we just beat one of the better teams in the country."

Sophomore Samm Butler started fast for the Mustangs defeating Dylan McCloskey in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Lammons, who was named Player of the Week by the American Athletic Conference on Tuesday, improved his singles record to 16-3 after a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win over the No. 110 singles player Bautista. Junior Markus Kerner clinched the match for the Mustangs with 6-4, 6-3 win over Majed Kilani.

SMU will be back in action on Sunday when they host a doubleheader beginning with Prairie View A&M at 12 p.m. CT and closing against Northern Colorado at 4:30 p.m. CT.
