DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team opened its 2017 dual season with 6-1 victories against Abilene Christian and Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader at Turpin Stadium Sunday.
Starting with Abilene Christian, the day began with doubles play as the Mustangs captured the opening point with wins on courts No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 2, 
Ana Perez-Lopez and 
Sarai Monarrez Yesaki defeated ACU's Whitney Williams and Jordan Henry, 6-4, before 
Macie Elliott and 
Mary Wright used a 6-3 decision to top Erin Walker and Sarah Adams.
In singles action, 
Liza Buss quickly made it 2-0 as she rolled over Walker, winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1. On court two, Yesaki followed close behind as she posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Williams, giving SMU a 3-0 lead. Wright clinched the match for the Mustangs topping Ansley Boarman, 6-2, 6-1, on court six.
With the match won, Perez-Lopez gave SMU a 5-0 lead finishing 6-2, 6-1, on court three. 
Dasha Sharapova and 
Charline Anselmo each went three sets, respectively. On court four, Sharapova won 6-1, 2-6, 1-0, before Anselmo fell in the tie breaker, 6-2, 4-6, 0-1.
With the win, SMU improved to 10-0 all-time against Abilene Christian.
Later in the day, SMU topped Prairie View A&M, 6-1.
In doubles, No. 3 
Sara Jamal and Anselmo defeated Sydney Thomas and Tatiana Ruhl, quickly posting a 6-0 sweep. 
Ellie Zogg and Yesaki at No. 1 doubles followed the trend and put SMU on the board, clinching the doubles point easily with a 6-2 victory over Neharika Rama and Shaddae Findley. Wright and Elliott finished 6-1 despite the point already being awarded.
In singles, Perez-Lopez swept Stacy Lackey in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, before Anselmo posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Timara Maxwell to give SMU a 3-0 lead. Zogg clinched the victory for SMU, using a 6-1, 6-0 win. Sharapova and Yesaki each recorded wins, recording 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1 finishes, respectively.
With the win, SMU improved to 5-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M.
SMU returns to action Friday, as it hosts Sam Houston State. Action is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
