NCAA Release/Full NCAA Selections List

DALLAS/INDIANAPOLIS (NCAA)— Hunter Johnson, Yates Johnson and Ronald Slobodchikov were selected to the 2017 NCAA Doubles and Singles Championships, the NCAA announced Wednesday afternoon.

"It's another great day to be a Mustang," head coach Carl Neufeld said. "I'm so excited for the guys, both Johnsons had a tremendous year and selected to NCAAs. They beat the No. 2 team in the country and had another fantastic year. Ronald beat the No. 3 singles player in the nation and had a wonderful season. I couldn't be more proud of the guys for these distinctions."

Hunter and Yates Johnson finished the regular season as the No. 24 ranked doubles team in the country after being ranked as high as No. 14 for the week of April 4. Twin brothers posted a 7-2 final record, beating three nationally ranked opponents, then-No. 14 ranked Nunez and Rybakov of TCU, then-No. 20 Pham and Pham of Columbia and the then-No.2 ranked Cash and Kadhe of Oklahoma State.

Ronald Slobodchikov is currently ranked the No. 66 singles player in the nation and finished the season with a team-high 11 wins. Slobodchikov secured the Mustangs' 4-3 victory of then-No. 19 Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas with a win over then-No. 3 Mike Redlicki. The junior has played at either the first or second spot all season for SMU and holds three victories over nationally ranked opponents.

The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee selected 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams to compete in the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships May 24-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia. The tournament will begin after the conclusion of the team championships which run from May 18-23.

The No. 37 Mustangs take on No. 18 Mississippi State Friday, May 12 at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Championships.
