SMU Defeats USF 3-1 On Senior Day

Box Score DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU volleyball team defeated USF 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24) Sunday afternoon on Senior Day. Senior Brittany Adams scored 14 kills, but it was freshman Rachel Woulfe leading the way with a career-high 21 kills.

With the fourth set tied, 24-24, Hannah Jacobs scored a kill and Rachel Woulfe and Lexi Nordmann combined for a block to give SMU a 26-24 win to secure the match. SMU improved to 12-15 overall, 9-8 in the American Athletic Conference, with the win, while USF dropped to 20-10, 9-8 in The American.

The Mustangs won the third set, 25-20, using a 7-0 run to take a 15-8 lead en route to the win. SMU finished the match with a .220 attack percentage, outscoring USF 69-50. Jacobs scored 16 kills, and middle blockers Nordmann and Meryn Kennedy added eight kills each. Nordmann also had four of SMU's six blocks. Montana Watts tallied 23 of SMU's 77 digs.

SMU closed out the first set with a 5-2 run to win 25-21. Trailing midway through the opening set, the Mustangs used a 5-0 run that featured four SMU kills, to regain control with an 18-14 lead. USF got within one point four times, but SMU never relinquished the lead. The Mustangs scored 21 kills, while holding the Bulls to just nine.

USF answered with a 25-22 win in the second set. The Mustangs led 17-14, but the Bulls went on a 6-1 run, taking a 20-18 lead. An Adams kill capped of a 4-1 SMU rally that gave the Mustangs a 22-21 advantage, but SMU scored just one more point in the set as the Bulls tied the match at 1-1.

SMU plays its final match of the regular season Wednesday at Houston.
