Dallas (SMU) --- SMU opens American Athletic Conference play on Thursday as the Temple Owls come to Westcott Field for a 7 p.m contest.
Â
-Thursday marks the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs, all coming since the formation of the American Athletic Conference. The Mustangs have never lost at home to the Owls in two meetings and have a 6-1-0 series record overall. The lone Owl win came in Philadelphia in 2015.
-The Mustangs have only trailed for 50 minutes through eight games this season. Comparatively, the squad has spent 392 minutes in front. Altogether, SMU has spent 53 percent of the season in the lead, 40 percent tied and just 7 percent of the campaign trailing (against Long Beach State and Colorado State).
-The Mustangs are now outscoring their opponents 10-1 in the first half after a three-goal output against Northern Colorado. The team has scored two or more goals in the first 20 minutes of four of their eight games. Additionally, SMU has scored nine goals in the first quarter of games and has yet to concede a goal.
-Dating back to 2017, the Mustangs have won six consecutive matches at Westcott Field.
-For the second time this season, Courtney Sebazco was named Rookie of the Week by the American Athletic Conference. Sebazco is just the third AAC player to be honored more than once with Rookie of the Week. The Fort Worth, Texas native had her first award-winning weekend against Rice and TCU, scoring a pair of goals. Two weeks later, Sebazco registered a multi-goal game against FIU, including one coming on a penalty kick. The freshman leads the Mustangs in goals, shots and shots on goals. Sebazco added her fifth goal against Northern Colorado.
-The Mustangs have taken advantage of early goals throughout the season. In half their games, the Mustangs have put up a pair of goals before the game is even a third of the way done. Against the Panthers, SMU scored twice before the five-minute mark, the quickest to a pair of goals for the Mustang since 2016 against Tulsa.
-Senior Goalkeeper Catie Brown has not conceded a goal in her last 250:07 minutes in net, a streak that dates back to the draw against TCU. Brown's 0.67 GAA is second in the conference.
-Head Coach Chris Petrucelli is quickly approaching the 400-win plateau. In his seventh season at the helm of the Mustangs, Petrucelli currently sits at 398 career victories. Only seven coaches have reached this mark in Division 1, including just five active coaches.
-The Mustangs were picked to finish fifth in the American Athletic Conference with junior Allie Thornton being named preseason All-Conference by the league's coaches.
Â
ABOUT TEMPLE –  The Owls come into Westcott with a 4-5 mark fresh off a 3-0 road win over Wagner. Temple has tallied wins against Maryland, Delaware and Saint Joseph's. Emma Wilkins leads the squad with five of the Owl's 12 goals. In net, Morgan Basileo has played the majority of the time with a 4-3-0 record and an .862 save percentage. Thursday will be the fifth straight road contest the Owls have played in.
UP NEXT - The Mustangs take on the UConn Huskies to wrap up the weekend. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday at Westcott Field.
Â
PETRUCELLI APPROACHING 400: Â Head Coach Chris Petrucelli began the 2018 campaign with 393 wins to his name. Petrucelli won 175 games during his time at Notre Dame and 165 while coaching Texas. After the Rice win Petrucelli's career record stands at 398-167-60 (.685). The 400-win mark has been achieved by seven D-1 coaches, six of which are active.
