Hardigree Named Most Outstanding Diver, Co-Freshman Of The Year At AACs

INDIANAPOLIS (SMU) – Freshman Parker Hardigree and diving coach Darian Schmidt took home hardware, while Garrett Carson earned a runner-up finish for the swimmers on the final night of the American Athletic Conference Championships.

As a team, the Mustangs finished fourth with 613 points. Cincinnati won the team title at 966.

Hardigree, who won gold on both 1 and 3 meter at the Championships, closed the event by winning a bronze on platform with a six-round 248.80. For his efforts, Hardigree was named both the Most Outstanding Diver and Co-Freshman of the Year, while Schmidt earned his second consecutive Men's Diving Coach of the Year honor.

With NCAA Zone qualifying scores on both springboards, Hardigree will compete at the NCAA Zone D Championships March 11-13 in Austin.

It was silver for senior Garrett Carson in the 200-yard butterfly with his career-best 1:46.90. SMU also picked up Championship Final points from Reid Anderson in the event, who placed fifth in a season-best time of 1:49.06. Simon Golczyk won the B Final.

A trio of Mustangs scored in the 200-yard breaststroke A Final, including freshman Connor Dalbo (1:59.34) and Brayden Rudd (2:00.35) who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in career-best fashion. Dalbo's time is ninth on SMU's all-time top performer list. Aedan Lewis was seventh overall, while Kianu Kitching was ninth, winning the Consols in a career mark of 2:00.39.

Matan Segal bested his entry time for the meet in the 200-yard backstroke A Final, coming in at 1:45.42 for fourth place and fast enough to move him to eighth on SMU's all-time top performer list.

Three Mustangs competed in the Consolation Final of the 200-yard backstroke and were led by Stephen Cheng, who paced the field in a time of 1:47.41. Trey Kilbride finished 11th overall, covering the distance in 1:48.72, and Duncan Brookover was 14th at 1:50.73.

Matthew Nutter set his own career standard with a seventh place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at 44.72, while Carson Klein (44.67) and Lucas Schenke (45.41) posted personal top times to finish ninth and 12th, respectively. Jesse Washington (14th) and Ralph Koo (16th) rounded out the scoring.

Ridge Livermore scored for SMU in the mile, placing 12th.

In relay action, Klein, Nutter, Segal and Schenke closed out the event by placing third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
