SERIES HISTORYÂ
Monday's contest will mark the fifth all-time match between SMU and Incarnate Word as the two played in 2015, 2016 and 2018. The first meeting took place on Sept. 23, 1995 when the Mustangs took down the Cardinals 3-1 at the SMU Classic in Dallas. SMU won the latest matchup over UIW by a final score of 1-0 when the two met on Sept. 3 during the 2018 season. Current Mustang Thomas Haney was part of the starting XI during the win while Knut Ahlander, Wyatt Priest and Lane Warrington all saw minutes off the bench. All four matchups and wins have taken place in Dallas and all but the game in 1995 have been shutouts.

UIW enters this week's contest with a 1-3-1 record. The Cardinals' lone win to start the season was a 2-1 victory over St. Thomas (Minnesota) at the HBU Tournament in Houston, Texas. The Cardinals played to a 0-0 draw against Detroit Mercy on Sept. 2 as part of the Dayton Classic in Ohio, where UIW also faced the University of Dayton and dropped the match by a final score of 3-2. Best Emena and Eduardo Perez return to the roster as 2020 WAC All-Freshman Team selections, the first in program history. The Cardinals were picked to finish ninth out of 12 in the 2021 WAC Preseason Men's Soccer Coaches Poll.
