Women's Golf Remains In Top-5 Entering Final Round

VERONA, Wisconsin- SMU's women's golf team remains in the top-five at the Badger Invitational after Monday's second round, the first tournament under new head coach Lauren Mason. The Mustangs' fifth-year senior, Kennedy Pedigo, led the team with a an even-par 72 to vault into the top-10.
Three Mustangs are in the top-20 of the 71-player field entering Tuesday's final round at University Ridge Golf Course. Pedigo is tied for 8th at +1, Serena Shah is tied for 14th at +3 and Katie James is tied for 18th at +4 after 36 holes.
SMU traversed the par 72 / 6,302-yard track at +12 on Monday, and at +15 through two rounds, sit 12 strokes behind tournament leader and host Wisconsin at +3. The Mustangs are still in the top half of the 12-team field that includes seven Power 6 schools. The Mustangs are second in the field with 26 birdies in the event.
"The conditions today certainly presented us with some challenges," Mason said. "We're excitied to bounce back tomorrow and go low in the final round."
Pedigo notched her 25th career par-or-better round, moving her into a tie with her former teammate Faith Summers Burke for fourth on SMU's all-time list. Pedigo went 1-under coming in, and did not drop a shot in her last eight holes. Pedigo co-leads the field with an aggregate -1 score on the five par 3s at University Ridge.
Shah is searching for her fourth top-20 finish in her last five collegiate events, and used three birdies in her Monday 76. Shah is tied for second in the field with eight birdies in two rounds.
Katie James also shot 76 in the second round, and is in position to beat her best career finish (T28th) entering the final round. James had just one birdie Monday, at the 504-yard par-5 11th.
Ashley Chow is tied for 29th at +7 carding a 76 in the second round, sinking three birdie putts on the day. Megan Chou was even-par going out, but finished the day with a 7-over 79, and is tied for 56th at +13.
The Mustangs return for the final round in a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.
