Box Score DALLAS – SMU men's tennis fell to Notre Dame 4-3 this afternoon in an extremely close contest. The Mustangs took the doubles point for the second match in a row, but could not win in enough singles spots to take the victory.
Adam Neff shined once again for SMU, winning both his singles and doubles match.
The Mustangs got off to a fast start, sweeping the doubles matches with two quick victories.
Liam Krall and
Julian Steinhausen defeated their No. 3 spot opponents 6-3. After being tied 3-3, the pair won three straight games to take the victory.
Adam Neff and
Ivan Thamma secured the point for the Mustangs, fending off a late comeback to win 6-4 in No. 1 doubles.
Adam Neff put on yet another dominant performance in the No. 3 singles spot to pull the Mustangs ahead 2-0.
Notre Dame would come storming back, winning in the No. 6, No. 4, and No. 5 spots to take the 3-2 lead.
Chakravarthi in No. 1 and Krall in No. 2 remained and both entered decisive final sets. Krall fought off three straight match points in the second game to break his opponent and stay alive. The sophomore put his talent on display in the third set with huge aces and pinpoint accuracy. He would take the set 6-4, leveling the overall match at 3-3.
In the final set of No. 1 singles, Notre Dame's Axel Nefve pulled away from Chakravarthi to take the overall win for his team.

Next Time Out
The Mustangs are back in action again tomorrow for the second leg of the tournament in Winston-Salem. They will take on either Wake Forest and Michigan (5:00 PM today) at 5:00 PM.

- Neff has now won four singles matches in a row. He is undefeated in singles dual matches and has not yet dropped a single set. He has won 48 out of 63 games and none of his opponents have won more than three games in a set.
