No. 27 Mustangs Win Eighth In A Row At No. 49 Tulsa

TULSA Okla. (SMU) – The 27th ranked SMU Mustangs defeated No. 49 Tulsa 4-1 today in Oklahoma to complete a perfect 7-0 regular season campaign in AAC play. Their win also marked an undefeated regular season road record of 7-0, which has included six ranked wins. Currently on an eight-match winning streak, the 19-6 Mustangs shift their focus to Friday when they will begin their quest for an AAC championship title.
 
The Hurricane's 73rd ranked doubles team of Connor Di Marco and Kody Pearson came out firing. They won five of the first six games on line one, before closing out the match 6-2. Huntley Allen and Julian Steinhausen got off to a quick 4-1 lead on court three. The doubles pairing continued their outstanding play, winning the match 6-2 for their sixth victory in a row. Caleb Chakravarthi and Ivan Thamma also got off to a good start, winning the first three games of their match on court two. The duo closed out the doubles point decisively with a 6-1 win.
 
Liam Krall added another SMU point with his 6-3, 6-4 straight set victory on court two. The sophomore now has a team-high 14 dual victories and has won four straight.
 
Steinhausen put the Mustangs up 3-0 with his fifth straight set victory in a row on court five. Steinhausen won the match 6-4, 6-3 for his sixth singles win in a row and 12th straight combined win across singles and doubles.
 
Tulsa's 87th ranked Pearson pulled a point back for the Hurricane with his hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 win over Adam Neff on court one.
 
As he often does, Kumar clinched the win for SMU. He played consistent tennis throughout his match on court four, winning 6-4, 6-4 and sealing the 4-1 victory for his team. This was Kumar's fifth straight win and improved his overall record on court four to 9-2.

Just before SMU clinched the match, Thamma battled off a tough match point on court six to break his opponent and tie the second set at 5-5.
 
Undefeated Records
This is the first time SMU has maintained an undefeated regular season road record since 1999. This also marks the Mustangs' first undefeated regular season conference record since 2008.
 
Winning Streaks
Huntley Allen and Julian Steinhausen have won six straight doubles matches and 11 of their last 12. They are 12-2 in dual play this season.
 
Steinhausen has won his last six singles matches, the last five being in straight sets.
 
Pranav Kumar has won five singles matches in a row and seven of his last eight. He is 9-2 on line four and 13-5 overall this season.
 
Liam Krall is on a four-match winning streak. The former AAC Freshman of the Year is 14-3 in singles dual matches this season.
 
Upcoming Matches
Up next for the Mustangs are the AAC Championships, hosted where they just played, Tulsa, Oklahoma. SMU is the  No. 1 seed, and will take the court Friday against Temple at 9:00 a.m. CT in the quarterfinals.
