DURHAM, N.C. (SMU) — The SMU women's soccer program fell 3-0 to the No. 3 Duke Blue Devils on Friday inside Koskinen Stadium.

The Mustangs fell behind early and fought hard in the second half to counter Duke's offensive production but were unable to find the back of the net.

After playing in only their second road match of the season, SMU is now 6-4-2 (2-1-2 ACC) after suffering its first loss during conference play, while Duke won their seventh straight match and is now 7-1-0 (2-0-0 ACC).

Forward Nyah Rose led the team in shots (2) as six different Mustangs recorded a shot attempt. All four of SMU's shots on goal occurred in the second half.

Goalkeeper Sierra Cota-Yarde finished the match with seven saves on 24 shots faced (10 on goal).

Duke took the advantage early, scoring the opening goal 2 minutes into the match.

Both teams were keen on controlling the ball and setting up runs when the time was right. However, Duke generated the majority of the scoring opportunities in the first.

The Bule Devils were able to add one more goal right before the end of the half (43rd minute) and took a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

SMU came out of the break more aggressive on offense, outshooting the Blue Devils 6-1 over the first 20 minutes of the half but could not capitalize on any of the attempts.

The Mustangs rattled off three straight shots on frame in the span of two minutes, starting at the 51st-minute mark, but all were denied by the Duke's goalkeeper.

Duke would score one more time late in the match to bring the contest to its final score.
