DALLAS (SMU)— The SMU women's soccer program fell 1-0 to NC State on Thursday inside Washburne Stadium.
SMU (6-3-1, 0-1-1 ACC) fought hard and was able to generate opportunities to find the back of the net throughout the game, but was unable to notch one on the scoreboard.
Despite being outshot 13-10 by the Mustangs, NC State (2-6-2, 1-1-0) broke the scoreless time in the 50
th minute and held on for the victory. The Wolfpack's goalkeeper, Olivia Pratapas, finished the game with four saves.
SMU came out of the gate swinging on offense, generating five shots, three on goal, and four corners in the first 20 minutes of action. Spearheading the charge was
Nyah Rose, who led SMU in total shots with five in the game.
The Mustangs led the shot differential 6-1 heading into the half, but the score remained 0-0.
In the second half NC State picked up its intensity and found the back of the net in the 50
th minute as Jade Bordeleau pushed one past the outstretched arms of SMU keeper
Aubrey Brown. Brown finished the night with three saves.
SMU was not deterred and continued to attack. Down the stretch,
Lindsay Nicholson and
Liz Eddy had a couple of good looks from inside the box but just couldn't capitalize.
Rose sent three shots towards the net in the final 25 minutes, including one in the final minute that deflected off a Wolfpack defender and went just wide.
In the final second SMU had its eighth corner of the night as
Paxton Bock sent a ball in but it was cleared away and NC State held on for the victory.
