SMU enters conference play on a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2). The Mustangs finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a record of 5-1-2 and have recorded five shutouts while outscoring their opponents 23-6.
Last time out, SMU picked up its fifth win of the season, defeating Idaho State 6-0 on senior day. Brooke Bunton led the way, recording her first career hat trick, the first hat trick by a Mustang since 2023.
Bunton leads SMU in goals with six after her three-goal performance. She ranks tied for third in the ACC and 13th in the NCAA in total goals scored. Bunton also leads SMU in points with 12, (7th in the ACC) and is tied for the team lead in shots with 26.
Freshman Julianne Richter proved to be one of the best in the conference in generating offense in the country as she tied for first in the ACC and fourth in the nation in assists with six.
Richter was named ACC Freshman of the Week (9/8) after tallying two goals and two assists in two games last week. She scored the game-tying goal against (rv) Texas Tech in a 1-1 draw and recorded one goal and two assists against Idaho State. Â
Goalkeeper Aubrey Brown has led SMU to four solo shutouts and one combined shutout this season. Her four solo shutouts rank tied for first in the ACC and fifth in the NCAA. The team has recorded back-to-back home shutouts twice this year.
The Mustangs added 17 newcomers to their 2026 roster, 10 freshmen and seven transfers. Head coach Nicole Nelson also brought in two new assistant coaches, Chassion Griggs and former SMU graduate assistant and men's soccer player Nick Petrucelli.
SMU returned 10 players, including midfielder Brooke Bunton, who was called up to the USWYNT U-18 team five times during the offseason and Libby Jannereth, who was picked by TopDrawerSoccer as SMU's ACC Breakout Candidate this season.

- Freshmen Julianne Richter and Londynn Hagan have been shining bright for the Mustangs
- The reigning ACC Freshman of the Week stepped up big against Texas Tech, scoring the game-tying goal in the 74th, keeping SMU's unbeaten streak alive. Against ISU, she recorded her second multi-assist game of the season and scored her second goal of the year as the Mustangs closed out non-conference play with a dominant home victory.
- Richter is tied for first in the ACC and fourth in the NCAA in total assists with six (Sadie Leal-Schuman, Stanford). She is second on the team in total points with 10.
- Hagan is second on the team in goals scored with three and has scored a goal in two of her last three games. She has also tallied one assist this season and is third on the team in points with seven.
- Friday's match will be the third time SMU and Miami have played each other. Both previous matchups have ended in draws. The last time SMU faced Miami in Coral Gables was in 2024 in a high-scoring 3-3 draw.
- The Mustangs enter the game on a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2). With a win or draw on Friday, it would be the longest unbeaten streak by the Mustangs since the team won 11 games in a row during the 2006 season.
- The current unbeaten streak ties the longest under Coach Nelson, as the team began the 2022 season (4-0-3).
