DALLAS (SMU) – Head coach Lauren Mason and the SMU Mustangs kick off the 2026-27 campaign Monday at the Leadership and Sports Invitational, Sept. 14-15, at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Washington.
The shotgun start is slated for 10 a.m. CT, 8 a.m. PT. Paired with San Jose State, Oregon State and Tulsa, SMU will begin the day on holes 13-16, respectively.
LAST TIME OUT
Last season, Mason and the Mustangs completed one of the best campaigns in program history. SMU won the Waco Regional, its second regional title in the last five years. The win gave the team a berth to the NCAA Championships, where the Mustangs ended up 12th overall, the second-highest finish under Mason (finished 11th in 2023). Including 2026, SMU has reached the National Championships in three of the last five years. Ending the year at No. 18, the Mustangs finished with the highest end-of-season ranking in school history.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
CELINE CHEN
Last season, senior Celine Chen finished with a 73.28 scoring average, the third-best on the team. Compiling 38 round in all 13 events, Chen carded two 67s at the NCAA Waco Regional and produced a 68 in the ACC Championship. She finished the year with three top five finishes and nine top 10s. Entering her senior season, Chen owns 210 birdies and five eagles.
GRACE JIN
Grace Jin comes into the 2026-27 season with a scoring average of an even 73.00. The Texas native appeared in 12 of the 13 events as a junior, finishing as high as 10th at the Huntington Bank Collegiate at five under par. Jin also logged four top 20s, 13 rounds of par or better and three round in the 60s with 90 birdies.
MAELYNN KIM
Houston transfer Maelynn Kim arrives on the Hilltop with a career scoring average of 72.53. Last season, Kim competed in 30 rounds across 10 tournaments. The Katy, Texas product collected three rounds in the 60s, including a 66 at the Schooner Fall Classic. She was also named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and the 2026 Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team.
YOONJEONG HUH
WCGA All-American Scholar Yoonjeong Huh appeared in six events for the Mustangs a season ago, totaling 16 rounds. At the Therese Hession Regional Challenge, Huh carded a season-low 69 in the second round. Huh finished with a 77.81 scoring average in 2025-26.
KIRRA ST-LAURENT
Kirra St-Laurent produced a strong freshman campaign, appearing in nine tournaments, totaling 27 rounds. St-Laurent logged a scoring average of 73.41, with a then-career-low 64 at the NCAA Waco Regional. Her third-place finish at the Regional helped the Mustangs win the team title and advance to the NCAA Championships. Last season, she piled up 83 birdies and three separate rounds in the 60s.
