SMU Women’s Golf Grabs Top 5 Finish At Leadership And Sports Invitational

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (SMU) – Senior Grace Jin fired a final-round 73 to finish tied for fifth, while the SMU Mustangs also finished tied for fourth overall as a team at +11 (875) after three rounds at the Leadership and Sports Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Club.
Jin, who pieced together a career-low 66 on Monday morning, began her Tuesday with a birdie on No. 1 and was incredibly consistent throughout the afternoon. The Texas native navigated the US Open venue with 13 pars, two birdies and three bogeys for a 1-over 73. She finished 2-under overall, just five shots off Eastern Michigan's Savannah de Bock. It was Jin's second top-10 finish as a Mustang and first top-five.
Kirra St-Laurent also found her way into the 60s on Monday with a second-round 68. The sophomore equaled Jin's 73 on Tuesday. Rebounding after a difficult opening nine (41), St-Laurent closed with a clean back nine, carding three birdies on No. 10, 13 and 16 to come home in 32. She would finish tied for 11th.
Australian native Celine Chen managed a second-straight 75. An up-and-down day for the senior included four birdies, three of which came in her opening nine holes. Chen wrapped up her first tournament of the season tied for 33rd.
Maelynn Kim signaled the final counting score of Tuesday's final round. Despite a double bogey on No. 9, Kim played her final nine holes of the day in even par, ending the day at 6-over 78. The Katy, Texas product finished her first tournament as a Mustang at 10-over par and tied for 45th.
It was a 7-over 79 for Yoonjeong Huh. Huh did collect a birdie on No. 9, her eighth of the tournament. She finished tied for 45th at 10-over total with Kim.
