DALLAS (SMU) – SMU is set to host the Trinity Forest Invitational for the third consecutive year of the program's home event, at the Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas, Monday, Oct. 29 through Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Â
THE EVENT:Â The tournament begins on Monday at 8:00 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Two rounds of continuous play will take place on Monday. The third and final round is slated for 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday and is also a shotgun start. Trinity Forest will play to a length of 6,233 yards, Par 72.
Â
EVENT HISTORY: SMU kicked off the inaugural event in 2016. Due to inclement weather, Trinity Forest was deemed unplayable forcing the cancelation after the first round of the Trinity Forest Invitational Presented By Vic Salvino. Michigan finished atop the leaderboard in what turned into an 18-hole event, while Texas A&M's Bianca Fabrizio shot 1-under 71 for medalist honors. Kansas State claimed the team title in 2017 after carding a 29-over (893) over the three rounds, and Reid Issac, representing K-State, took home the individual championship after submitting a 1-under (215).
Â
THE COURSE: Trinity Forest Golf Club resembles many of the great old courses of the Northeast and Great Britain, featuring a links style course on a rolling meadow with tall native grasses and dramatic bunkering and green complexes. The team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw – Coore & Crenshaw, Inc. – designed both the championship golf course, the short course and the nine-hole "Horse Course". The design of Trinity Forest honors classic golf courses with traditional, strategic golf and great artistry as the guiding philosophy. Trinity Forest is the home of the PGA TOUR's AT&T Byron Nelson Championship, as well as annually host NCAA invitational tournament and additional high-profile professional and amateur events.
Â
THE FIELD: Seven out of the 12-team field is ranked in the top-58 by Golfstat. No. 42 SMU will host a field that consists of No. 18 Illinois, No. 25 Oregon State, No. 43 Colorado, No. 44 Tennessee, No. 54 Kentucky, No. 58 Kansas as well as UTSA, Dallas Baptist, Kansas State, North Texas, and Chattanooga.
Â
