DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team claimed two wins on Monday, sweeping Collin College 7-0 and defeating Northwestern State 6-1 at the SMU Tennis Complex.

The Mustangs struck first against Collin College, the No. 12-ranked junior/community college in the ITA rankings, by quickly earning the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Karina Traxler/Sarai Monarrez Yesaki defeated Sydney Albro/Makeilah Turner, 6-0, while Ana Perez-Lopez/Nicole Petchey defeated Nicole Maldonado/Taylor Chapman, 6-1.

SMU continued its dominance in singles, winning each match in straight sets to complete a 7-0 sweep of Collin College.

In the second match, the Mustangs again pulled ahead with three doubles victories. The duos of Traxler/Monarrez Yesaki and Perez-Lopez/Petchey each earned their second wins of the day. Tiffany Hollebeck and Anzhelika Shapovalova finished up their match with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, giving SMU a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Perez-Lopez stood out in singles play, wrapping up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kateryna Avram. The junior improved to an impressive 6-1 in all spring dual matchups. Traxler followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court three over Ela Iwaniuk. The match-clinching point was won on court four, with Nicole Petchey up 6-2, 4-1 over Emilija Dancetovic when the match was retired.

SMU and Northwestern State played out each match, giving victories to Tiffany Hollebeck on court six (6-1, 7-5) and Anzhelika Shapovalova on court two (6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (4)).

The Mustangs face off against Texas A&M on Saturday, Feb. 17, at noon at the SMU Tennis Complex.
