DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer program earned its sixth shutout of the season and a point in the conference standings after drawing Miami nil-nil on Sunday inside Washburne Stadium.
SMU (7-3-2, 1-1-2 ACC) had everything working on defense, holding Miami (6-4-2, 0-3-1 ACC) to just one shot on goal, which was saved by SMU goalkeeper
Aubrey Brown.
After an even first half, SMU was able to generate 10 shots in the second half and outshot Miami 13-8 in the game, but was unable to find the back of the net.
SMU's best scoring chances came late in the game as
Liz Eddy sent a shot off the crossbar from just outside the box in the 73
rd minute, followed by
Kaya Lee having a shot blocked from 15 yards out in the 75
th minute.
The Mustangs' best scoring chance occurred in the 83rd minute as
Sammy Nieves got free well inside the box and sent a shot towards the bottom right corner that deflected off the Hurricanes' goalkeeper, then off the post, and out.
SMU's pressure in the second half also generated five corner kicks for the Mustangs, four of which occurred in the final 12 minutes of game action but did not produce a goal.
SMU has only allowed one goal over its last four games and has recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season. It was the Mustangs' 23
